Sustainable Energy

My home design will minimize the need to use fossil fuels for heating and cooling. Capture renewable energy from the sun and wind. Transform the power of sunlight and the wind into electricity. Convert renewable energy into electricity. Reduce my need for heating energy by using smart windows and a passive solar design. I will reduce my energy needs by choosing efficient appliances and lighting.

By harnessing the power of the wind and collecting the suns energy, sustainability is achievable. Situated near the top of a hill, facing due south, this passive solar house will use concrete flooring and a stone wall of native rock to collect heat from the sun without the need for a furnace. Massive straw bale walls will insulate the home to retain heat in the winter and coolness in the summer. A clear story roof structure with windows that open will create a natural air conditioner that takes advantage of convection currents in the summer to cool the entire home, while providing day lighting year round. All the materials used in the construction will be chemical and toxin free. This modern home will combine comfort year round, energy sustainability, occupant health, and the inspiration of the natural setting of the La Boca Ranch in southwest Colorado.
